Ideal for day-trips

With its unmistakable ambience and the wide variety of accommodation available, Füssen is the ideal starting-point for discovering the beauty of southern Germany. The best places can easily be reached on a day-trip.

Munich

Hofbräuhaus, Oktoberfest, Olympia Center, Deutsches Museum (for science and technology) and the internationally renowned collections of paintings in the tree Pinakothek galleries make Bavaria’s capital one of the cities in Germany with the most visitors (distance: about 115 km).

Herrenchiemsee Palace

In the middle of Bavaria’s largest lake is Ludwig II’s unfinished palace. It was built in the style of Versailles, uses the whole island as a palace park and can only be reached by a romantic boat trip (distance: about 145 km).

Oberammergau

This holiday resort is world-famous for its Passion Play. Yet the numerous house-wall paintings, called Lüftlmalereien, and the artistic wood carvings are themselves worth a visit (distance: about 45 km).

Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the Zugspitze

This pleasant town is one of the favorite meeting points for the jet set and is situated at the foot of Germany’s highest mountain, the Zugspitze. From here its almost 3000-m-high peak can be reached by rack railway, or you can take the cable car from Erwald past the imposing West Wall or the Eibsee cable railway from Grainau at lake Eibsee (distance: about 70 km).

Innsbruck

Twice, in 1964 and 1976, the capital of the Tyrol hosted the Winter Olympics. The opportunities for shopping, the rich cultural life and the Old Town decorated with its many oriel windows, the Ottoburg and the Golden Roof also deserve a few medals (distance: about 120 km).

Zurich

Zurich, the largest city in Switzerland, is especially suitable for a leisurely stroll through the shops. The parks on the banks of Lake Zurich, the elegant Bahnhofsstrasse and the shopping streets in the charming Old Town provide the perfect ambience (distance: about 230 km).
