King's House on the Schachen

In a truly unique setting, with a view of the Zugspitze mountain, King Ludwig II had a small palace built in the midst of the mountains. Rather plain from the outside, the wooden house conceals Oriental splendor on the first floor. In the Turkish Room, lavishly decorated and furnished with divans and a fountain, the king used to celebrate his birthday and name-day in the seclusion of the mountain world – surrounded by his servants clad in Oriental robes. This illustrious building can only be reached on foot via Elmau or from Garmisch-Partenkirchen through the Partnachklamm.
